Interview with the Founders:

Where did you come up with the idea for this app?

The idea for this idea came up when Peter was working for a cybersecurity company, assigned to Manhattan for 3 month long consulting project. Even though he was surrounded by countless restaurants, he couldn’t decide which ones to eat at, and Yelp wasn’t helping him find what he wanted. He thought there had to be a better way to find the best eats, 3 times a day, everyday.
What problem is your app trying to solve?
The problem is that it takes too much time and too much effort to decide what to eat. Reviews today can be lengthy, and don’t always provide the relevant or related information. In today’s digital age, people love taking pictures of food and (1) posting to social media/instagram (2) keep it stored in their phone. Bite, as opposed to an entertainment app, differentiates itself as a decision making tool that helps people discover what’s available nearest them, and letting its users determine for each of themselves if something is worth trying/eating.
How big is your team?
3 full-time founders and 3 full-time developers.
How long did development take? Was this a full time project or side project?
Development took 4 months with 3 full time developers. The founders have been working on this part-time and committed full-time in September.
What are your future goals for the app?
1. Recognition as the lead food/restaurant review platform for dish review, search and discovery.
2. Partner with third-party online ordering and delivery companies.
3. Vision: become the universal digital and visual menu
In one sentence, why should people download this app?

Bite, the “Tinder for food”, shows the pictures of the best eats nearest you with relevant information and meaningful ratings; it simply makes more sense, right?

Testing Localhost On Your Phone

Often times, developers find themselves in the situation that they want to test code on a remote device (ex. Their iPhone) from their local server(computer) rather than having to push it to a remote server each time there is a change.

For example, if you are creating a node.js application on your own personal computer and you wanted to see what it looks like on your cell phone. You would have to push the code to a remote server and load the ip address/ url on your phones browser.
Luckily ngrok helps solve this issue.

This tool securely exposes your localhost’s port to you network and creates a url that you can simply put in on a device on the same network.

Here’s how to use it.

 

  1. Download ngrok
  2. Run your application (ex. “npm start” for node.js) –> Note the port that your application is running on (ex: localhost:3000, 3000 is the port)
  3. In terminal, just type “ngrok http <port>” where <port> is the port number that your application is running on
  4. On your device, type in the forwarding ip address that is printed out. 
  5. All set! Test more efficiently!

Uploading Your App To TestFlight – Right to the point

  1. Open your projects workspace (projectName.xcworkspace). If there is no workspace, open the project file (projectName.xcodeproj) 
  2. Open your project settings
  3. Increment your Version and Build Number accordingly. (*Note: Each upload to iTunesConnect/Testflight must have a different build number)
  4. Make sure that your Team Profile is selected under the “Signing” Group
  5. Select Product –> Archive  ……. Wait for archive to complete
  6. The organizer will automatically popup once the archive is completed. If it doesn’t just go to Window –> Organizer
  7. Select your build, and then click Upload to App Store 
  8. Select Upload. Once this process completes, iTunesconnect has to process the build. This could take around 20 mins
  9. Log into iTunesconnect.apple.com
  10. Select “My Apps”, then Select your app
  11. Select a version to test
  12. Enter in Test Information, and other information for Internal Testing or External Testing.
  13. Submit for review if External TestingFor a more in-depth tutorial check this out
